Fave Travel Strollers

Wednesday, May 11th, 2011

I love our Kolcraft Contours Stroller for travel. When they were infants, we just carried the infant car seats on the plane and gate checked the stroller. Later on, it has these easy foldable seats and they can face each other, it’s narrow enough to get in tight stores/spaces. I love it! I swear it’s the Cadillac of twin strollers and I recommend it to everyone! – Patty Kulich

Hotel? or NO Hotel? That is the Question With Twins.

With 9-month old twin boys, booking a few nights at a hotel is a daunting experience. They either cannot (or will not) be flexible with us when it comes to what we need for a comfortable stay. Here is a wish list with all of the things that would make our lives easier when traveling to hotels with twins:

- Discounted rates for suites or adjoining rooms for parents of infants or multiples. Families need lots of space and when you have 2 babies. When booking more than one room can get really pricey.

- Quality cribs available. Hotel cribs are the worst. They’re usually old, probably recalled, and the sheets are disgusting. We’d prefer to put the boys in Pack & Plays we’ve lugged from home rather then subject them to hotel cribs.

- Kitchenettes in rooms if possible. Most time you’d rather feed two babies in your room then subject other guests to chaotic feeding time in a nice hotel restaurant. Some suites offer kitchenettes or wet bars. They are super helpful for preparing meals for the kids, or even snacks. Also, it helps with cleanup so you’re not using your bathroom for the babies all the time. Having a microwave nearby is a major PLUS.

- Trustworthy babysitters on call. Many times we wish we could escape for a few hours and have a nice meal while someone dependable watches over your kids. A nanny service thru the concierge would be fantastic in giving parents of twins a break.

- Baby gear available for rent. It would be heavenly to arrive at a hotel and a double stroller would be waiting for us. Even some exer-saucers, bouncy chairs, or even baby monitors in the room would be so amazing. These are things that are hard to take with you.

Don’t get me wrong, some fantastic hotels out there have services like these available. But most do not. Which is part of the reason why we as a family prefer to skip the hotel experience (for now…).

Ahh! Traveling with twins!

Adventures of Traveling with Twins
By Patty Kulich

When flying with 6-month old twin infants, and a husband, I totally recommend packing two separate diaper bags, one for each baby. Since my husband and I had to sit in different areas of the plane, it was critical we each had everything we need for the flight. I gave him our (practical) Skip Hop Duo Deluxe (http://www.skiphop.com/product/23000.html) twin diaper bag. And I traveled with my fun Tory Burch Jaden Tote (http://www.toryburch.com/p-113959-JADEN-TOTE.aspx?cid=741) So yummy…

Here was a list of our must-haves for the plane:
PLENTY ’O BOTTLES: Enough for the length of our trip plus an extra meal in case of delays. I pre-measured the powder formula and put in bottles ahead of time. We bought bottled water at the airport (past security) to mix on the plane.

LRG ZIPLOC FREEZER BAGS: A woman’s best travel friend. For dirty diapers, clothes, used bottles, etc. Bring like 5 of them!

3-4 TOYS: To suck on, play with, etc. Small ones to keep them preoccupied.

PACIFIERS: Great to suck on for take-off and landing for pressure changes

MUM-MUMS or TEETHING BISCUITS: great for them to suck on when irritated

POWER/CLIFF BARS: For you silly!! You’re going to need to eat too! And you won’t have time for much else.

2 OUTFITS EACH: They’re going to get messy. It’s inevitable.

CHANGING PAD: Some planes do not have changing tables! Gross! And you may have to change a baby on a closed toilet seat! Ewwwwww!

8-10 DIAPERS: You never know… you could be delayed for hours.

TRAVEL WIPES: You’ll use up the whole pack! Trust me.

WET ONES: To wipe down dirty surfaces & clean hands. Planes = filth

SWEATSHIRT: Baby will get chilly on the plane in-flight

BLANKET: To cover baby if cold, or cover him from bright light

CELEBRITY SMUT MAGAZINE: For you of course. A guilty pleasure while they nap…

Sleeping peacefully (while you read your magazine)!
